Bernard Hopkins Gets Knocked Out Of The Ring In Final Fight Of His Career

Bernard Hopkins definitely went out with a bang for the final fight of his career on Dec. 17, 2016. Bernard, also known as “The Alien” due to his freakishly good physique and athleticism at 51 years of age, lost to light heavyweight Joe Smith Jr. in an 8th round TKO.

Joe Smith Jr. hit Hopkins with a big right hand in the 8th round and Hopkins literally fell head-first outside of the ring.

Hopkins then had 20 seconds to get back into the ring or else he would be disqualified from the fight. It didn’t look like he was aware of that. Many of the trainers and physicians assisted Hopkins ringside as the countdown was taking place.

On the scorecards, Joe Smith Jr. landed a legal blow that knocked Hopkins outside of the ring and since Hopkins failed to make it back to the ring in time, Smith Jr. was awarded a TKO victory.

Hopkins had an incredible professional career that lasted 26 years. His professional record now stands at 55-8-2. Not bad at all.

Hopkins has credited his success in life to spending many years in prison as a young man, and upon his release he vowed to never return and dedicated himself to the sport of boxing.
